What the game Lanternhold collects, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Who we are

Lanternhold is made by The Next Beacon, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number 42184444. For anything about your data, email info@thenextbeacon.com. The game's Settings screen has the same address.

No account

The game has no account and no sign-in. We never collect your name, email address, phone number, location or advertising ID, and the game shows no ads. Your campaign, settings and the stages you make are saved on your device.

Anonymous usage data

To find bugs and make the game better, it records how it is played: which screens you open, which controls you use, how battles start and end, how long loading takes, how smoothly it runs, and the fact that a session crashed (never the crash report itself). With each batch it sends the platform, the operating system version, whether the device is a phone, tablet or computer, the language and the time zone offset.

The identifiers are random values: an installation id the game makes on first launch, and the device's vendor id, which our own games on one device share and which cannot follow you to apps we did not make. The data goes over an encrypted connection to our own server and is shared with no one. Cloudflare, which runs that server, sees your IP address as any network host does; we do not read or store it.

You can turn this off at any time in Settings: Share anonymous usage data. Turning it off also deletes anything not yet sent.

Published stages

If you publish a stage you made, our stage server keeps the stage, your winning replay of it and the time you published it, so other players can find and play it. The stage name and its creator id travel with every share code and are public. To count likes and plays once per device, enforce publishing limits and handle reports, the server keeps a one-way hash of the game's random device id, never the id itself. It holds your IP address in memory for at most an hour to limit abuse and never writes it down. Unpublish removes a stage at once, with its likes, plays and reports.

Players can report a stage. A stage reported by several players is hidden until we review it, and we may remove stages or stop a device from publishing.

Purchases

Purchases go through the App Store, Google Play or Steam. They handle the payment; the game only learns whether a purchase went through.

Playing together

Co-op battles connect devices on your own local network directly. Nothing from them passes through us.

Deleting your data

With no account, we can't look you up by name or email. What we can do is delete everything from one installation, and the game shows you the id to quote. Open Settings in the game and copy your install id, then mail it to info@thenextbeacon.com and ask us to delete it. We'll remove every record carrying that id within 30 days and confirm when it's done. For a published stage, use Unpublish, or mail us its six-letter code. Deleting the game stops all collection immediately, without asking us.

This website

These pages set no cookies and run no analytics. Cloudflare serves them and, like any web host, processes your IP address to deliver them.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask to see, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you, object to its use, or ask for a copy. Email us and we will respond within a month. You can also complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
